Photography

I developed a heightened interest in photography 2 years ago when I got my first DSLR digital camera. With the help of online tutorials and photo critiques I have developed my skills. I take the photos in the cameras Raw format and process them using Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop allowing greater control over the final image. Although I would have considered this predominantly a hobby, this knowledge came in useful recently on a course I completed called Webactivate, where I took and processed many photographs for 2 websites currently live, namely: www.oneillsmacelimerick.ie and www.opendoorstudios.ie. I enjoy photography in either a leisure or professional context and intend to develop my knowledge and skills further.

Landscapes

The following are a selection of landscape photographs I have taken. They were taken predominantly in Ireland at the Clare Glens, Cratloe Woods and Ballybunion with a few taken in Lanzarote. This type of photography is heavily influenced by the quality of natural light available and weather conditions thus at times they are challenging to take in Ireland with our unpredictable (dull!) weather.

Black and White

Black and White photography can allow for much greater creative interpretation as you can work with the graphic qualities of an image, eliminating colour, which can create occasionally a timeless quality where compositional elements like form, texture and line, along with tonal values, dominate the image.

Mixed

The following are a mixture of images taken over the last year. These were predominantly taken for assignments which were for use on the aforementioned websites www.oneillsmacelimerick.ie and www.opendoorstudios.ie. The 35mm f1.8 lens I have came in useful for these photographs with its large aperature allowing for the shallow depth of field used in a lot of the photographs. This means I could focus on a particular element within the frame and have the other elements moving out of focus thus heightening the attention being placed on the chosen element.
